My profession app

About the project

I noticed that most young people find it difficult to choose their future profession, or know what a profession implies on a daily basis work routine.

I wanted to build an app that helps young people decide their profession based on their interests, the subjects they like and hobbies. An app that leads them to what they can learn and where, and what the professional work implies on the specific subject.

My Role:

User Research

UX UI

Problems:

1. Lack of applications or websites with information about the variety of professions, where to study and what the specific job implies.

2. Very little or no information about categories of professions.

3. No information of places that offer volunteer options or working jobs for juniors in order to understand better the implication of the job or what the daily tasks implies.

Solutions:

1. An app that brings solutions and information about the variety of professions, fields, jobs, what the daily tasks implies or where one can study.

2. Include features that allow universities and colleges the posibility to offer a variety of studying options for young generations who look for their next profession.

3. Include features that allow different firms to offer volunteer posts for future students or jobs for juniors in order to help them better understand the daily tasks that a specific profession implies.

Research:

To understand the user behavior, I conducted an online survey to observ any similarities or problems young people have in finding their future profession.

Reports reveal that 52% of college graduates are working in jobs that don’t require degrees.

Insights:

I received 48 answers that show:

  • 27,7 % went to college, 59,6% went to university, 27,7% learned different courses.

  • 66 % finished college or university, 34% picked a profession, learned it and still working in the field, 34% did not finished learning and changed their profession.

  • 59,6 % chosed to change their first profession and for the second one went again to study in college / university.

  • 44,7 % thought about changing their first profession and have to learn again.

  • 60% are happy with their first chosen profession.

  • 60% would want to volunteer or work in their chosen profession before / while in college / university.

Conclusions:

After conducting the case study along with the SWOT process I decided to include some features

 in the application.

1. University / College ads that take the user to a contact form which they complete and get contacted for further information on study options.

2. From user profile screen one can insert favorite subjects of interests and it shows them a selection of professions that involve the chosen subjects.
